17" Antique Bisque closed mouth Mystery Doll for the French Market c.1885

This unique doll by a mystery maker may be German or French in origin, but definitely made to compete on the French market with similar French dolls of the 1885 period. She has a unique face with plump cheeks, strong modeling and exquisite painted features.
She has a bisque socket head, brown glass paperweight inset eyes, painted features, closed mouth with outlined lips, pierced ears, brunette mohair wig, cork pate. Her body is the French composition and wooden loose-ball jointed type with metal hands, which are known to have been used by . Petit & Dumoutier. She wears an antique costume and shoes, with a lace bonnet. Marks: 7. Excellent condition, painted finish on hands is flaking.
