This pair of 16" German dolls are from my recent travels. They have celluloid heads on solid ball jointed German bodies of very good quality. Their heads are identically marked with the beetle mark of Hermsdorfer, a German company that made celluloid baby and child dolls 1925-1927, and 56 with Germany underneath. Their faces are very well painted as is their molded hair. They were sold to me as a matching pair with all original ethnic costumes from a German province. The boy's costume is sewn on him and I did not remove it. It is clear that his body is sound and the same as the girl's. He wears lieder-hosen with hand embroidered flowers and decoration. The girl wears a beautiful multicolored wool skirt with yarn design. Her linen shirt and cap are hand embroidered. She has an antique red bead necklace. Their shoes match and are leatherette with tassles. The boy has a dent in the back of his head that is not visible when displayed. It would be covered easily with a felt hat if you so desire. The girl is perfect.
