This wonderful pin, also referred to as a Victorian Doublet Stick Pin is made with two pieces of wrapped wire, a pin for the sword and a chain! The handle is made with one piece of twisted wire made from the same strand that is also closely twisted to resemble rope - and it does! There is the sheath also made of one piece of twisted wire. It is beautifully designed and masterfully executed. The safety chain then keeps the two pieces together. The chain hangs down in the center attached to the handle and the scabbard covering the "blade". It is very lightweight and perfect for that lightweight fabric you'd like to dress up.
To see another like it, please refer to 100 Years of Collectible Jewelry by Lillian Baker, page 75 for a description and page 76 for a photo. Ms. Baker calls it a brooch, flower or corsage pin, and dates hers made of gold and gems to 1860 so the style is quite old.
This is made of gold toned metal which I had tested as it seems to be made of high quality wire. It isn't made of real gold wire but the chain did test for 6K gold so there is some gold content there.
It measures 2 1/2" X 1 1/8". It is a lovely piece and quite unique.
