This is an absolutely stunning antique brooch dating back to the very early 1900s. The delicate leaves are meticulously textured and engraved with diamond cut slashes for extra sparkle. This type of detailed work is no longer done due to the expense. It was quite expensive to have gold and silver engraved then, too, but it was very popular in the late 1800s - early 1900s and the upper class could afford to purchase costlier pieces. There were professional engravers who were either freelance engravers or who worked full time for one supplier. They did a magnificent job. Take a close look at this brooch - not just the leaves but also the "stem" is meticulously textured in a way that makes it seem like bark, and it does!
This is a one of a kind brooch, it is just beautiful, and definitely an heirloom quality piece. It looks very delicate but is rather sturdy. All ten genuine pearls measure from about a 7 1/2mm size to about an 8 1/2 mm size. They are drilled and firmly glued in place as almost all pearls used in this manner are.
It measures a bit over 2 1/2" long and almost 1 3/4" high. The pin runs the length of the brooch. It is clearly signed 14K and has a safety clasp which was first used around the time this brooch was made. It is in excellent condition and gorgeous. You will not be disappointed.
