DeNicola's St. George Slaying the Dragon Brooch. Book Piece.
The story dates from the 10th century. A dragon was blocking the town's water supply, demanding a virgin as sacrifice. St George, armed with his sword and signing himself with the cross, slays the dragon.
Crafted in gold tone metal, this brooch is in excellent condition. The body of St George is covered with clean, clear rhinestones. The tip of his sword is accented with a turquoise colored bead. The horse has two rhinestone eyes.
This brooch measures approximately 2" high and is 1 3/4" long x 1/2" wide. Total item weight is 36 grams.
DeNicola produced jewelry from the late 1950's until the early 1970's. This piece is hallmarked "DeNicola" in an oval cartouche.
This pin is also a book piece and is featured in Lillian Bakers book, "Fifty Years of Collecting Costume Jewelry", page 63.
