This spirited piece of Hutschenreuther porcelain sculpture bears the impressed signature of their premier designer Carl Werner who was not only an artist at Hutschenreuther, but also the Technical Director of their Art Department from 1922 - 1960, all the way from the Art Deco period to the years of Mid Century Modernism. ... quite a journey.
Actually composed of two pieces which I would guess have always been together; a sculpture of two lovely women captured in a twirling dance, and a flower frog base. Graceful and lively, imagine how lovely this piece will look when you fill the base with seasonal blooms ... an invitation to participate in an interactive art collaboration!
CONDITION is as perfect as you might wish, I see no problems at all and no repairs, even the delicate fingers are perfect. The sculpture is impressed with the "C Werner" signature on the side of the base, clearly shown in the photos. The original paper labels are still present on the bottoms of both pieces, along with the Hutchenreuther underglaze marks as shown, both marks with the added "Kunstabteilung" which translates as "Art Department" and denotes pieces produced by Hutschenreuther's Art Department rather than the division that created their tableware. Measures 9 3/4" tall when assembled with the sculpture on the base. The height of the dancers alone is 8", and the diameter of the flower frog bowl is 8 3/4".
This is a beautiful piece of porcelain art in pristine condition that will grace your home, your collection, or both. Enjoy!
