19th C Maucheline Tartanware Notebook with Real Lead and Bone Pencil - Prince Charlie Tartan - Tartan Ware

These highly desirable and collectible souvenirs of Scotland were created in the town of Maucheline in the 19th C. This sweet little notebook has lots of bells and whistles, a beautiful decoratively embossed brass clasp, brightly gilded edges like a fine volume of literature, an embossed leather spine and wide loop for holding a tiny pencil... and yes, the pencil is original, made of bone and lead, not graphite, an early piece in and of itself.

CONDITION is grand with only s few minor scratches. The paper tartan covering is bright and still bears it's "Prince Charlie" label, and it's amazing that the original pencil has remained in it's place for all these many years. There is some light writing on the first page, and some on the textured fly leaf that can no longer really be seen, other than that, there are only a few tiny stray marks on the pages. The tartan plaques of the cover exclusive of the leather spine, leather pencil loop, and the decorative brass clasp each measure 1 15/32" x 2 5/32". Overall the piece measures approximately1 5/8" x 2 7/16". The little real lead pencil measures 2 1/8" long.

A fine addition to a collection of these small Scottish Tartanware treasures, and not a common piece in any condition. Enjoy!
