Georgian Silk Embroidery of a Dashing Young Man
This piece is one of a pair, the two pieces are shown in the last picture. I will be listing the companion piece, the woman soon. They are a true pair, facing each other, they are wearing matching embroidered sashes, are framed in matching original period antique frames of the same size, came from the same estate, and each bear the finely engraved card of "Mrs. Dudley Loftus - The Red House, Brackley." I think it would be lovely to keep them together, but they are being sold separately.
Condition is very nice. There is one small loss in the background at the center left that is typical of these old silks, and the frame shows the wear of 200+ years. Please note that there are some reflections on the glass that appear as lighter spots, sorry. Measures 8 1/2" x 10 5/8" overall, with a sight size of 6 1/4" x 8 1/2".
A lovely piece for a collection, most especially if you watch for the mate to this piece and keep the two together. Enjoy!
