Surreal Pen and Ink Wash Drawing - Signed
An unusual pen and ink wash drawing with a dreamlike, almost hallucinatory quality. I purchased it because I found it fascinating, and as I looked at it I began to see more and more. There is a large 'teddy bear' figure, wearing striped pajamas, which has been pinned to a stick. It is reminiscent of prison or maybe a hospital or concentration camp. Then there is the Ringmaster at the lower left next to the signature, with his shadowy ink wash audience at the lower right. The "P" in the signature is an arrow that points to the Ringmaster, so I would guess that the artist identifies with him. The negative space around the 'audience' creates a body. Then there are dogs, and horses, and sheep. There are trees and lightening, and what look like cosmic holes in reality. This is really an intense and interesting piece.

Condition is great. The drawing is framed and ready to hang. Measures 17 1/4" x 21 1/4" overall, with a printed image size of 13 1/2" x 17".
If you are drawn to the strange and unusual you will love this hypnotic piece. There are layers within layers of images and interpretations waiting to be discovered. Fascinating. Enjoy!
