A particularly charming image of a baby playing with the water in his washbowl, the intent concentration on his face equal parts of curiosity and wonder.
The image is crisp and exquisitely detailed, very skillfully engraved after Timoleon Marie Lobrichon (1831 - 1914), a French artist known particularly for his depictions of children, whose paintings have sold in the high five figures. I particularly like the rendering of the splashing water. And the frame is a treasure in and of itself, a decorative Eastlake Victorian walnut beauty. There is an old label on the back which says something like "To Grand mother Rich... all affection from Rich," I can't quite make it all out.
Condition is excellent. There is normal wear to the beautiful antique frame with one small loss of less than an inch to the edge of the inner gold filet at the bottom right corner. Measures 13 1/2" x 11 3/4" overall, sight size measures 9 1/8" x 7 3/16", and the printed image measures 7 11/16" x 6 3/16".
This piece will make you smile, all chubby fingers and toes. A real treasure. Enjoy!
