Gottschalk Doll House - Dollhouse - Primitives - Folk Art

This fantastic dollhouse was built for a long ago lucky little girl, and survives for us as a wonderful piece of Folk Art. It displays thoughtful design and building techniques... with a few renovations along the way. Simply charming.

Under the blue and cream paint is the original red roof of a Gottschalk doll house. I have been told that these houses are easy to restore since the original paint was water based and does not 'hold' subsequent paint jobs very well, as you can see on this house. Of course I find the blue and cream chippy paint to be totally charming, and loving shabby old paint, it was largely why this piece appealed to me. But I understand that many doll aficionados would prefer this piece to display with it's original water based paint (probably green and white with a red roof) which has been waiting, protected all these years, for someone to come along and put in a little effort to uncover it.

Opening ingeniously from the front to the ground floor, with the attic accessible through the back roof... its porch swings away, steps and all, and beckons you to enter. There is some early wiring and fixtures that look to have been added along the way, I'm not sure, but they are not to scale.

Condition is as you see it, with flaking paint and oodles of charm. The electric cord has been cut... just as well since there was nearly no insulation left. It could be rewired if you choose, the fixtures might be removed, or it can simply be left as-is and enjoyed. This little house measures 22" wide across the roof, 11 1/2" deep not including the steps which stick out an additional 2 1/4", and is 18 1/2" tall to the top of the chimney 'spools'.

These old houses are always desirable. Wonderful for a holiday display or delightful any time of year, this sweet little cottage has super color and character, captivating with it's simple appeal. Or if you prefer to renovate, you'll have a Gottschalk dollhouse displaying it's original paint. A fantastic and fun piece. Enjoy!
