Girl Feeding a Goat - Oil on Canvas - Antique Gilt Frame - Genre

A charming genre painting of a barefoot peasant girl feeding a goat. Dressed in Renaissance style, she seems happy to perform this simple chore, standing in front of a wooden wall, enjoying the bit of sun shining through the thick overhanging trees. The frame is an antique gilded beauty, and looks to be original to the painting.

Condition is fine, with no apparent problems. Unsigned. The paper that once covered the back is gone, revealing the canvas to be in good condition. Measures 17 3/4" x 23 3/4" overall, with a sight size of 13 5/8" x 19 5/8". The canvas itself on just the wooden stretchers measures 14 1/8" x 20 1/8". The frame shows minor, expected wear; the type of aging that adds a distressed charm and would be desirable even if empty. Very nice.

Painted with skill and love, this painting reveals a slice of long-ago life, a frozen evanescent moment the viewer has come upon suddenly... youth, summer, ease.
