A wonderful pair of antique children's boots worn by some long ago little boy or girl, but perfect today for a large doll. This is a particularly nice pair with the black and tan leathers cut to create a pretty decorative design framing the lacing of each shoe.
Condition is very nice. There are some expected scuffs and appropriate wear. I'm not sure if the laces with their crimped tin aglets are original, but this is how these shoes came to me. Lined with cotton twill, there is a band of plain woven cotton at the top. The size "4E" is stamped on the lining along with some additional numbers. The soles measure 5 1/2" in length, and 2" across ball of foot, and they each measure 3 1/4" tall at the back. Late 19th C.
I love old children's shoes. I look at the scuffs and try to imagine a Victorian child swinging on a garden gate or riding a favorite hobby horse and scuffing their beautiful boots. A wonderful pair to add to a collection or display in a Victorian nursery setting.
