The technique of 'guilloche', or 'engine turning', displayed on the center medallions of these links, is all but a lost art today, requiring complicated, antique machines, sometimes called 'Rose Engines'. Far from being a mere mechanically engraved design, guilloche requires considerable skill and artistry on the part of the guillocheur to achieve it's precise geometry. Because of the dwindling number of both operational, antique machines, and skilled guillocheurs to operate them, guilloche today is a true luxury, found mostly on treasured antiques like these links.

Condition is great, with a bit of wear to the platinum surface on the back of the links only where you can see a glimmer of the 14K yellow gold peeking through, the fronts of all four plaques are perfect. This expected wear is testament that these links were well loved... if only they could tell us some of what they saw back in those nights of clubs and speakeasys. Marked on both connecting bars, one says "14K", the other "PLAT. & 14K". Early 20th C.

These beautiful links are perfect for the well turned cuff of any modern lady or gent. They will take you from the board room on to dinner, and even out dancing if that's on the schedule. Treat yourself or someone special.
