Pennsylvania "Standard" Barn with Overhang - Watercolor Landscape

A large watercolor of a Pennsylvania "Standard" barn, as pictured and described in Eric Sloan's "America." There are no leaves on the trees, but a few early spring flowers are peeking up out of the ground. The air appears thin and crisply cold, and the sky is a bit moody, but spring can't be far behind. A nice, evocative watercolor.

Condition is good. I have not opened the back of this painting, and there are a few specks that have gotten in there over the last 50 years or so, but really nothing major, and even these minor problems affect the mat only. Signed lower right, "NOWert 60" or NOWer- '60"... curious capitalization. The frame is very nice, and appears to be cherry... how appropriate for a painting of a Pennsylvania scene! Measures 24 1/4" x 30 1/4" overall, and 14 3/4" x 21 3/4" inside the mat, quite large for a watercolor.

This is a scene that will appeal to those who have a connection to America's rural past. Whether you grew up on a farm, are a student of America's architectural heritage, or simply feel the tug of these wonderful old buildings, you will appreciate this lovely watercolor.
