Wedgwood Blue & White Transferware Basket W/ Handle - "Ferrara" - Transfer Ware
This piece is remarkable. The fragile, arching handle has survived the years intact, as well as the delicate, raised foot, amazing!
The pattern is "Ferrara" with the characteristic ships being displayed only at the bottom of the bowl, the blue transfer being dark and intense, and there is the characteristic blue pooling of the pearlware glaze under the foot.
Condition is unbelievable. As I mentioned, this basket, handle and all, is unbroken. No chips, cracks, hairlines, or repairs that I can see. There is a small glaze adhesion from the manufacture near the base of the handle on one side, but really nothing to write home about, most especially in light of the astonishingly perfect condition of this dainty little piece. Measures 4 1/4" tall to the top of the handle, with the basket itself measuring approximately 6 7/8" x 5 1/16" across. The date code "3QO" on this piece indicates a date of 1912, but the blue tinge of the glaze where it pools under the foot is characteristic of the glazes used on earlier pearlware.
Much less common than tableware, and rarer still because of its vulnerable handle, this sweet little basket is ready for your collection. Fill it with sweets or float one of your prettiest old-fashioned garden roses. Enjoy!
