Antique American Pine & Wire Ware Bird Cage w/ Bells - Wireware - Folk Art - Americana - Naive - Primitive

My favorite detail is the three little hand fashioned ornamental wire bells that dangle on the front... non-functional embellishments meant only to be decorative. They tremble with the smallest movement. Simply charming. Perhaps the birds that once lived here liked to peck at them.

It's a beautifully proportioned piece, standing squarely on it's four delicate legs. The feeding station and side door have shaped bottom edges, another detail 'just for nice'.

The wire work is fantastic, and although some of the working parts, like the latches and spring closing mechanisms on the doors are a bit bent, they are all present and functional... and did I mention those BELLS?

Just look at the staining on the wood around the nails... exactly what you want to see on an honest antique like this. It has never been painted. The floor measures 7" x 10", the distance from the floor to the apex is 12", and it measures 16½" tall to the top of the hanging loop. It's great for display. A wonderful designer piece.

Condition is remarkable for it's 100 or so years. It's a bit cattywampus, but that's why it's so charming. The tray is a bit warped, but still functions. I can hardy believe there are no missing pieces, isn't that amazing?

A strong piece of American folk art. Untouched and completely original.
