Cushing's Perfection Dye Display - Counter Top Country Store Display - Hand Painted

This wonderful old store display piece is still full of packets of Cushing's Perfection Dye. It is the perfect way to store or display this dye that is still in use today. Wainright Cushing, born and educated in Maine, was a wounded veteran of the Civil War working at the Brown Woolen Company as a dyer when he began to sell his own product formula under the name Cushing's Perfection Dyes in 1880. His operation was small at first, but through thrifty stewardship and carefully placed advertising he was able to grow his business. He became a prominent citizen in Maine, and his company not only survived his death, but is extant today, run by Joan Moshimer as a part of Joan Moshimer's Rug Hooker Studio - W. Cushing's & Company.

CONDITION is grand, the wooden display is still in beautiful, bright condition. The dye packets are of varying vintage, as stock was likely replenished over the years, I would guesstimate the age of this display to be some time around the turn of the 19th C into the 20th C. You can see in the photo of the bottom that the floor of the compartments is composed of paperboard that is still in great, crisp condition. Measures 19" x 14 1/4" x 6 5/8" tall at its tallest at the back and 1 7/8" tall at the front, although the packets stand above these measurements. There are 127 packets (4 1/4" x 2 1/2") of Cushing's Perfection Dye of various colors, 11 packets (4 1/2" x 3 ") of Cushing's All Fiber Type Dye, and one packet (4 1/4" x 2 1/2") of Cushing's Perfection 'Plurosol' Organic Detergent with the outer paper in rough shape. The condition of the packets is generally good, but varies as you can see from the photos, however. the contents look to be fine.

This is a fantastic opportunity for the General Store enthusiast, or even a studio rug hooker to own a useful piece of history. The perfect way to organize and display your dye packets whether they are in daily use or not. Cushing's perfection Dye is still the standard of quality when it comes to natural fiber dyes, and just the value of the dye included with this marvelous display piece is well in excess of $400. Enjoy!
