Antique Staffordshire Child's Cup / Mug with Hoop Trundling Decoration - Pearlware - Transferware - Transfer Ware

Hoop rolling has been a favorite game since antiquity all over the world. In fact, just about the time this little antique cup was made in the Staffordshire district of England, there was a great deal of public debate related to complaints about the "hoop nuisance."

CONDITION is fine, with some expected crazing in the pearlware glaze. The cup has a delicately formed foot with a ring just under the attached handle. There is a small kiln adhesion on the foot below the handle, and a couple of manufacturing anomalies. Produced during the second quarter of the 19th C. Unmarked as to maker, but undoubtedly from the many Staffordshire potteries. Measures 2 5/8" tall, 2 3/4" across the base, and 2 11/16" across the mouth.

A nice piece with crossover appeal for collectors of transferware, children's items, or Staffordshire pottery. This little cup would be right at home in a Victorian nursery setting. Enjoy!
