This sweet brooch has a beautifully designed mount for a loved ones hair. We can't begin to imagine the patience it took to weave the tiny strands into a small mat to frame! But trust the Victorian ladies to turn an interest in nature and art into a beloved memento of a dearly departed loved one! Photography was still "new" and very expensive, so a locket of hair worn close to the heart was a popular sentiment of love.
The oval beveled glass shows off the delicate contents. The mount is yellow unmarked gold. We believe it to be gold-filled, which is quite appropriate for the age of this piece and for the era in which it was a popular adornment. The clasp is an early "C" clasp which is attached to the mounting by a tube or "T" hinge.
