Mold Blown, Broken Pontil Victorian Era Glass Pitcher, "Delaware"

This is a really wonderful mold blown, broken pontil pitcher in the "Delaware" pattern. At one time it had heavy gold moriage on flowers and leaves also on the handle and rim with a background of deep ruby flash glass. This is very, very rare, and a fine piece of glass making.

It is more diminutive than many pitchers from this era, which makes it not quite so heavy when its full! The design is quite fun with leaves and flowers flowing from the top and bottom of the pattern....it reminds us of the way many wall paper borders are designed, with no "up" or "down". The floral designs are raised and flashed in pink! Really a nice accent piece for a cupboard full of clear glass. The base shows fine, wear, (as it should! for an item 111 years old!).

Delaware is US Glass pattern #15065, made in 1899. It is similar to the Bohemian pattern and also known as New Century or Four Petal Flower. We found it illustrated in "The Standard Encyclopedia of Pressed Glass". 3rd Edition, page78. In 2003, this pitcher was valued at $200.00.

9" tall.
