Victorian Flow Blue Staffordshire Platter - Milan, New Wharf Pottery

New Wharf was an Earthenware manufacturer at Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent. (Staffordshire, England)

In 1877 "T.F." (Thomas), along with his brother William, purchased a site in Navigation Road, which they called New Wharf Pottery, and which they had probably been tenants or since 1875. (The name New Wharf was probably derived from the New Wharf that was built on the nearby canal at that time.)

This "Milan" platter is a lovely dark blue on white, with gold transfer highlights around the border. The marking on back incorporates the Staffordshire Knot (looks like a pretzel!). This mark was in use between 1890-1894.

No chips, cracks or breaks.

12 1/2" x 9"
