19th C. GOLD-PLATED Oval Brass Frame with Blue Cabochon Stones
This beautiful late 19th century Frame has over 45 Blue Glass Cabochon "stones" in a Gold-Plated Filigree Pattern with Rope Twist Border. There is a beveled edge around the oval opening which holds the original Convex glass. It maintains the original easel and ring for hanging, as well as the gold-plated (Dore) finish. On the back, the oval ring lifts off for insertion of a painting on ivory (which it originally held) or your photo. Not marked, but probably of French origin--finely detailed wire filigree work and the excellent finish point to a French maker. The stones are of blue glass, and vary somewhat in color. Some tiny spots of tarnish, but in overall excellent condition for its age. Dates circa 1870-1890. Measures approx. 3 1/4" X 3 5/8" high, with the area for the photo approx. 2 1/8" X 2 1/2".
