Athenic Bronze ARTS & CRAFTS Oval Frame
This Unusual Arts & Crafts Oval Frame is marked on the back "Benedict [Logo] Athenic Bronze 1480". Made of Copper, it has its original patina--there are a few stains near the top--please see photos--it has not been cleaned or polished. There are 2 oval soldier head silhouettes, one on each side. The easel is also original. Measures 6 3/4" X 8 5/8" high. The photo area is 4 1/4" X 6 1/8",[ measured from the back].
The Benedict company was formed in 1894 in East Syracuse, NY, and absorbed several other companies in 1912, then continued on till the war years, when production slowed, and they went out of business in 1953. Dates circa 1910-15. Nice example of Arts & Crafts that has not had its finish tampered with.
