This beautiful little bowl is a part of the Santo Domingo Pueblo Pottery family. This pot or bowl is burnished polished with a smooth stone when the clay is leather hard, then the design is painted on with a special black slip which remains matte when fired. The artists initials are on the post as MA and CA of which I haven't been able to identify them. The pot is also marked SDP for Santo Domingo Pueblo.
The pot is just 2 inches tall with a 1 3/8 inch mouth. There is some light loss to the color of the design and a few light use wear scratches.
