Carter Howe & Co enamel & sterling Evangelists cross pendant

Antique sterling silver cross with blue enamel depicting the 4 Evangelists. The pieces is signed with the letter 'C' in an arrow mark of Carter, Howe & Co. The cross measures 2" x 1 3/8". It weighs 6 grams. Each of the 4 ends of the cross has an intricate depiction of an Evangelist, there is the emblem for Saint Matthew, the winged man symbolizing incarnation, St Mark, the winged lion of the resurrection, St. Luke the winged Ox for passion and Saint John the eagle for the ascension. The makers, Carter Howe & Co were in business in New Jersey from 1841 until 1915. There were many partners for Carter over the years but this particular mark was an earlier mark used when Carter was with Howe. This company is well known and well respected. This piece is in excellent condition.
