A polychrome carved lime wood figure of the Holy Virgin standing on the crescent moon, South Tyrol end of the 19th century.
A figure, lime wood carved in the round of the Holy Virgin standing on the crescent moon. The Virgin standing on the crescent moon is a symbol for her glory and victory over time and space. The Holy Virgin wears a blue cloak which is adorned with ornaments in gold leaf. Face, hands are very expressive and of finest craftmanship.On the back the figure has a little hole because it seems to have been fixed on a wall. The figure was crafted by Franz Martiner a well known sculptor of the South Tyrol/Italy who worked also for the Pope. The sculpture is sold together with the original invoice which is dated at November 25th, 1908. The work is in perfect condition and dated at the turn of the 20th century.
