A fantastic French medal from the Art Deco era (1930s) signed H M Petit.
The medal which is hallmarked "bronze" on the side is large and VERY heavy. (68g!)
It was released for an agricultural contest of the time. Usually the best crops or cattle in the country. This is written in a small plaque on one side of the medal, with besides 2 figural areas, showing Agriculture and Science as this was the beginning of Agronomy.
On the other side is a magnificent Art Deco woman, a kind of modern Goddess, one thinks of Ceres in the Greek mythology, portraying the abundance of the Earth. She hold a generous bundle of wheat on one side, while she is plucking grapes hanging on the other side.
