A stunning French Victorian print dated 1858, from "Le Magasin des Demoiselles" with a delightful indoors scene and magnificent colors.
The piece is signed "J. Desjardins" in the lower right corner, and shows a woman wearing a fantastic Victorian dress, and her daughter, at a milliner's shop. The lady is choosing a hat.
This is the Napoleon III era, and the decor is lush: a tall mirror, drapes, bronze sconces, a Chippendale mahogany table, and a burgundy velvet chair.
The costumes are fabulous, with a wealth of details, and all faces are charming.
Besides the rare colors, what is remarkable about this print is its sharpness.
This was a luxury publication and the printing process was superior. The hand watercolor is also very sophisticated, and not just a pochoir filling spaces.
A very artistic piece that will bring Victorian charm to any decor!
