A superb French medal dated 1898 in its original blue velvet case, showing a magnificent nude male holding a plaque with the name "Jean".
The piece is signed and hallmarked "bronze" on the side.
The artist is Henri Dubois, (Henri Alfred Auguste 1859 1943) a second "Prix de Rome" and the son of Alphee Dubois, himself a "Prix de Rome", the most prestigious European Art prize for bronze engraving.
The medal is beautiful on both sides, and has a wealth of details.
One side shows the nude kneeling and holding a large plaque with the award recipient's name: "Jean".
On the other side is an antique wreath, lush and exquisitely carved.
A top artwork, beautifully engraved by a major name in the field, and which will bring prestige to any collection.
(Please check out my other antique bronze medals. They are all fantastic!)
CONDITION: In very good condition. No damage. Antique case is also in very good condition for its age, and still closes well.
