A late 19th Century masterpiece!
Very likely Italian, this is a magnificent Madonna and Child charcoal drawing, large and done on thin card, made with exquisite rendering and details.
Both the child and the mother have the most delicate features and this is really a dream of a drawing!
The child who is playfully hiding under his mother's veil is eating grapes. To the left is a table with a fruit bowl.
The chair, the pillow where the child is sitting, and the Madonna's costume are all Renaissance in style.
The child's body is perfect, and both faces are particularly beautiful.
The artwork is signed I believe "Piaggo"on the right hand side and dated "97" for 1897.
A rare and sumptuous piece that will bring prestige to any decor!
