Antique FRENCH Empire Charcoal Drawing 1810s Lady FAITH An Absolute BEAUTY!
This is an absolutely exquisite piece from the French Empire times 1810-1820, showing one of the 4 cardinal virtues: "Faith".
The piece is done with a delicate charcoal and has this strong contrast we all love.
The antique Grecian garment has the right suppleness and shading, the gestures are perfectly harmonious, and the woman's features are just beautiful.
Faith focuses on a chalice she holds in her right hand, but it is totally ethereal, and the piece is definitely more lay than religious.
What really matters here, is the intense gaze of the character on a nearly invisible object, because what is represented is a quality of the mind. a beauty which is enthralled by a concept, more than a tangible object.
An amazing artwork which will bring a luminous quality to any decor!
CONDITION: In very good condition. No loss or damage. Hardly any foxing.

Antique (and modern) drawings are in. The trend started about 2 years ago, took off with the attraction to French Academic nude drawings, and is not showing any signs of abating. It is a definitely a good time to acquire these antique pieces. Drawings make delightful transitions between paintings in a home, and reinforce the refinement of any art collection.
