Antique Chinese Qing DRAGON Panel Runner 19th C Century LARGE Embroidery Embroidered IMPERIAL Phoenix DIVINE!

This is a large Qing dynasty embroidered silk panel/runner, in a very rare teal color, with both Imperial symbols: the Dragon and the Phoenix, and a profusion of "Forbidden Stitch".

Only top ranking noblemen and women could wear the frontal dragon.

Both the panel and its border are not late Qing like most Chinese textiles available today, but go back to the mid part of the 19th Century, circa 1850.

However the runner was very likely put together later.

The piece is spectacular!

Large, with the most delicate teal and cream hues, against a light, subdued, teal background, a rare color harmony for Chinese embroideries

The sheen of the satin embroidery still very vivid.

The minuteness of the needlework is stunning. It is definitely much smaller than late 19th C pieces.

There are forbidden stitch motifs all over.

The border, as precious as the center, makes of course a perfect contrast, all the more as it is trimmed in black.

A treasure from the past with the depth of Imperial History!

MEASUREMENTS: Length: 34". Width: 12 1/4"

CONDITION: The condition is definitely good for a silk textile of that age.

However, it is so ancient, none of the the metallic thread has survived.

There are also some areas to be careful about (see last 3 pics)

The background silk in the phoenix area has real wear in a few places. But the part that has the most wear is the border, also in the phoenix area.

The border there has a variety of losses. Time has munched up the silk! These losses show as a light cream in the closeup picks, since there was a cream silk fabric underneath.

When the runner is lying flat on a piece of furniture, etc., this is not striking at all. I would therefore recommend, if you do not frame the piece, to consider adding a simple lining.

The dragon and its border have no damage. There is only one small area of wear on the teal silk, showing as dark, top right of the dragon's head.

The piece will be shipped Expedited from Paris (5-8 days guaranteed) fully insured and with signature at delivery.
