Antique Art NOUVEAU Print Lithograph 19th C French SIGNED BREATHTAKING Panels

They are signed M Starke" with the artist's monogram in each panel, and are a chromolithograph (same as a lithograph, but with several stones)

published circa 1890-1900 in an Avant Garde French quarterly called "Le Journal de la Decoration".

The panels are a perfection in this extravagantly ornate representation of nature, called the "Nouille" style (noodles!)

You still find the Nouille style today in many French and Spanish buildings and in Parisian restaurants of the time, as well in the famous Paris Metro entrances created by Guimard.

The colors in the piece are delightful! very pastel, like often with Art Nouveau: fresh pinks, light teal, green and ocher against a cream background.

Everything in the panels is sinuous, bulbous, leafy, blooming and organic, and of course, symmetrical.

Art Nouveau at its best!

REFERENCES

"Le Journal de la Decoration", a luxury publication, edited by Armand Guerinet in Paris, is famous in its own right.

Issues are included in many Museum collections, including the Smithsonian and the Met. (See their online catalogs)

A yearly compilation of the French edition was also published in German by Guerinet's partner: Hoffman, a Stuttgart publisher, under the name "Dekorative Vorbilder".

The print is so amazing, it was selected by the New York Public Library for their collections, and you will find it online in their digital gallery, with this ID number:

The library has the German copy, but apart from the text which was translated into German, the plates were identical.

CONDITION:

In good condition.

The publication name has been mostly erased by the binding, but the name of the artist is quite visible. Small tear along the left edge No stains. Colors are intact. No fading. Magazine paper quality. Matte printing.
