A very poetic French watercolor from the late 1940s, shortly after WWII, showing a sandy beach with cliffs falling into a light green sea.
The piece represents the Normandy coast, and after reviewing photographs of the area, very likely Granville beach.
It is signed "G.P. Martinet" in the lower right corner and is done on thick, high quality artist's paper.
This is a painting with a lot of character, realistic, but with a touch of dream in it.
Colors are subdued and refined, and this simple, natural scene is a true pleasure to contemplate.
An excellent vintage artwork with genuine beauty and style
