This vintage watercolor is to die for!
Dated 9/1978 and signed L K for Liselotte Kerscher, a German artist (1912-1979) this is the most charming vision of the Paris Luxembourg Gardens in the Summer.
The gardens are The French Senate gardens and they are delightful!
Close to the Latin Quarter, (the University district) they are invaded in the Summer by the students who go there to learn on a sunny day.
Tourists also flock there to discover the Renaissance Medici Fountain, a historical beauty.
The watercolor shows the main water basin, surrounded by lovely antique marble sculptures, with flowers blooming everywhere, and a huge palm tree on the left. You can see the City in the distance, behind the tall, ancient tress.
Palm trees are kept in a heated building during the Winter and taken out when the weather is mild again. This is a tradition that goes back several Centuries.
The painting is cheerful, quite realistic for someone who has already been there, and has besides A LOT of style!
