Antique French EMPIRE Napoleon EAGLE With Crown 19th C Century Small Wood Carving Sculpture Very RARE
Although Napoleon III also used the eagle as his Imperial symbol, I believe this carving goes back to the First Empire, a difference of only 40 years, because of the extreme outline of the wings on top, the long neck, and the crown, which has cameos, like Napoleon's.
The piece used to be an architectural element, in a noble house or in a church.
Though not huge, the artwork has a lot of intensity!
The eagle displays real majesty and regal power, and is beautifully hand carved in a medium dark wood with a superb patina, and a wealth of details.
He is set against a natural background of plants and flowers.
This VERY rare piece can be added to a piece of furniture for extra character, or can be displayed separately as a sculpture.
