This magnificent nude portrait of a young male is to die for!
It was designed by Cochin the Younger, who, with his father before him, was a famous engraver for the French Court in the 18th Century, and is listed in the "Encyclopedia Universalis" among others.
The piece basically represents the best proportions for a man (I believe that!)
The ideal male beauty's measurements for the time, but interestingly not far at all from our contemporary taste.
And the young man's face is not boring either, and quite modern, which is a departure from many antique engravings, where it is so difficult for us today to relate to the characters.
The piece is signed C.N. Cochin Filius (for "son", as both father and son had the same name) in the lower left corner. The printer has his name on the right.
At the back is a strip of paper with the title of the work.
This is a piece which will easily fit between more colorful paintings and will bring a lot of prestige to any room.
Timeless, refined and really gorgeous!
