A rare set of French Napoleon III metallic religious embroideries of Museum quality, with a large central cross, surrounded by symbols linked to the Passion.
All parts were originally together, very likely at the back of a spectacular 19th Century priest's vestment.
Today, these treasures can be reunited in an ornate frame, or, which would also suit them very well, applied on velvet, or silk, and hanged like a banner
All embroideries are streamlined but also very realistic:
the ladder, the spear, the sponge, the hammer and the tweezers, the nails, the Crown of Thorns, and even the rooster.
All appliques are done in very high metallic relief, with 2 or 3 contrasted tones, with besides extra glitter for the Cross.
An exceptional set with strong symbolic imagery and highly decorative qualities, which should last another century easily!
CONDITION: All embroideries are in very good condition. Some, normal wear to the velvet.
MEASUREMENTS: Cross Length: 13". Width: 8 1/2".
