Antique Late 19th C Century French Handkerchief Redwork Embroidery & Monograms DIVINE!
The piece comes from the same amazing French collection as my Brussels surplice, point de gaze handkerchief, etc.
The base of the handkerchief is of course made of the finest batiste, close to transparent. (called "linon" in French).
The red work is done in fairly strong relief with cotton thread.
Beautiful and original decorative borders (this is the Art Nouveau era) with one angle more ornate than the others and displaying the newly wed initials "T" and "G" (Thérèse and Georges?) in lovely medallions.
This very refined piece can be framed, turned into a decorative tray, applied on dark velvet and hung like a banner, etc.
MEASUREMENTS: Length: 18". Width: 18".
CONDITION: In very good condition. Clean. Only a few micro holes. Small area of very fine mending, original to the piece. Red work still very vivid. (But may lose its color if washed and stain the batiste all over, so I definitely advise against hand washing)
The piece will be shipped Registered Airmail from Paris (very safe!) including insurance and signature at delivery.
