A divine evening French belt of Museum quality, all embroidered on thick with satin with dark silver Renaissance motifs.
This extraordinary piece comes from the same antique French textiles collection as the lace surplices, etc. in my antiques/textiles category.
The motifs are incredibly graceful and the contrast between the ivory silk and the dark silver metallic ornamentation, pure refinement. The minuscule sequins also shine in the light, giving the piece extra preciousness.
This beauty is still wearable today, though I would not advise doing it more than a few times. I would wear it on a long silk blouse, or on a fluid silk or dark velvet dress, etc.
The rest of the time, you may want to keep it in a pretty box, away from daylight, to preserve the silk longer.
The length of the belt is 27" to 28", but not more, as the sides, which used to have stretch, have lost their elasticity with time.
CONDITION: Very good for its 110 years or so. Some light fraying of the silk, hardly visible among the ornate motifs. Unraveling of the elastic sides along the edges. Some minor and normal loss of mini beads sequins. Back is in very good condition, with some slight, superficial red color on top, probably from storing it next to a red fabric.
Belt is clean with no stains.
The piece will be shipped "Registered" (very safe!) from Paris including insurance and signature at delivery.
