An antique English silver plate meat dome of melon shape decorated with shields/crests. Grand in size, the dome measures 16 1/2" long by 12" wide and is 11" high. The shield bears a bird with a branch in its beak, most likely a dove with an olive branch along with other armorial figures. A large handle with Rococo floral and foliate design adds a the finishing touch.
Quintessential in English design, the gleam of a silver plate meat dome resting on a sideboard along with large transferware platters is both classic and comforting.
English, Circa 1895, unmarked
