A stunning French silver and vermeil or gilt table snuff box with chased foliate details. The box, Circa 1820 bear marks for Paris. The top bears the single initial "S" set in a large cartouche with an elegant double border. The top, sides, and the bottom of the box are adorned with beautiful flowers and scrolling vines. Excellent addition to a box collection; available for layaway.
The box bears the Raphael mark with the number 2 in an oval mark for .800 silver, Paris, which was used between 1819-1838 and the masked face in a circle for medium objects, Paris. The maker's mark is worn and I am still researching it. The box and the gilt is in very good condition.
Measurements; 3 3/8" X 1 ½" X 1" high; approx. 102 grams
Condition report; hinges work well, minor wear to gilt. Several small dings noticeable from inside the box which are not easily seen on the outside due to the chased work. One dent is noticeable on a small end.
