Michel Thompson is a listed artist, born in 1921 France to a French Mother and an American Father. Michel had studied to be a meteorologist and later hoped to be a pianist, only to find his true talent as an artist by chance as a "Sunday Painter" of watercolors. He was one of several French artists who formed the group "L'Homme-Témoin" (Man as Witness), in 1948. The members chose an artistic style of "Expressive Social Realism" as opposed to abstraction, with the belief that beauty could be found in the ordinary of everyday life.
His first solo exhibition was in 1954 Paris, with a more realistic style in his painting (as seen in this work from 1962)
Thompson quite painting for a time, beginning in 1968, and resumed about 1978, with a style more geometric in form. He died in Paris in 2007. His works can be found in several museums including Paris and others.
