Whiting & Davis Beadlite Off-white Enamel Mesh Purse 1940s

We are offering this delightful vintage Whiting and Davis enameled mesh handbag in off-white with a hollow enameled snake-chain double handle. Our purse has the W&D tag inside, with some wear and fraying to the tag. This style dates to the early 1940s, before the gold and silver mesh replaced the enameled purses in popularity.

Our purse is a double-handle style, with small "bubble" armor mesh in cream or off-white enamel. The interior is dark blue and has an attached kiss-clasp coin purse in the same color. There are two small interior pockets and a working sturdy metal zipper.

The purse is 9" wide and 6" long with a handle drop of 6". There are no missing mesh tiles; the enamel on the handles is in remarkably good condition, with very little paint loss. We do note a few "dropped stitches" in the armor mesh at the point that body of the bag attaches to the top frame. There are no missing links but a few of the tiles got skipped in getting attached to one of four the tiny rings used to make the "spider". The hardware is in very good condition. There are no rips or tears inside or outside.

This bag is shown in the ID price guide book, "Whiting and Davis Purses: The Perfect Mesh", by Leslie Pina and Donald-Brian Johnson on page 152.
