This is a most unusual antique vanity jar. It was designed for bath salts and has the gorgeous green color you see in the pictures. It was the custom to use colored glass in order to keep out the light so the salts would preserve their fragrance. The top is sterling and has full English hallmarks for Chester in the year 1899. The sterling top weighs 0.8 ounce. The jar is 3.5 inches tall and 1.75 inches in diameter. Both the glass and silver are perfect. The sterling top screws off, and the glass stopper - the original after all these years - lifts out. As a bonus, the family crest appears on the top of the lid This would be a handsome addition to a vanity table.
