1853 Silver Plateau by Elkington w Beautiful Grape Design

Seldom do you find an antique silverplate plateau of this quality. The Birmingham, England, firm of Elkington is known for its fine work; this plateau is an example of Elkington's finest workmanship. The plateau comes from an early period of Elkington's work--1853. The border consists of an intricate pattern of lush grapes intertwined with grape leaves. The rim of the border is a circling branch--much more complex than an ordinary regular border. The plateau is 17.5" in diameter with a 14" mirror; the height is 2". The silver marks are on one of the leaves. There is the "E.& Co." mark with a diamond containing an "O" which corresponds to 1853. The condition of the silverplate is excellent--only a little wear; the mirror also is in outstanding condition.
