This is a fine, old English serving dish with all the signs of a a quality piece. It is silver on copper (the Sheffield process); there are a couple of small spots where copper can be seen, but nothing to keep someone from using it on a fine table or buffet. It is a generous size: 14 inches by 11.25 inches by 6 inches tall. There is a maker's mark on the bottom, shown in the last picture. The handle on the top easily unscrews for cleaning. This is a very substantial piece. It weighs more than 5 pounds. It would look appropriate as part of a buffet service or on a handsome table. The last picture shows this splendid divided covered dish on a buffet set to serve eight, so you can get an idea of the scale of the piece. The division in the dish allows two vegetables to be served.
