1899 Cut Glass/Silver Biscuit Jar - Mappin & Webb
This antique Mappin & Webb biscuit jar is in the finest tradition of English silver. The cut glass body of the jar is 6 inches tall (to the top of the finial) and 6 inches in diameter at the widest point. The top, handle and ball finial are silverplate. Marks on the silverplate are "Triple Deposit, Mappin & Webb's Prince's Plate, London & Sheffield". The jar has a wonderful pattern of sunbursts and large and small cross-hatching. The silverplate is in fine condition, as is the glass. The jar and lid weigh almost 3 pounds--heavy, quality glass indeed. The marks on the silverplate are Mappin & Webb's marks for 1899.
