Just beautiful, antique black and white, French engraving of cherubs at play. "Games and Pastimes of Childhood". There are four, different scenes engraved on a single piece. Not four smaller engravings framed together. They were created by engravings by Claudine Bouzounet Stella (FRANCE, died 1697) after the original drawings by Jacques Stella (FRENCH, 1596-1657). They were executed with the permission of the King in 1657. Fortunately, a past owner saw the value and the beauty that was worth preserving, and had it re framed in a period looking, solid wood frame with glare free glass. The engraving is in excellent condition. There are a couple of very small spots on the bottom, on the right hand side, as you can see in the close up photos. There are a couple of dings on the edge of the wood frame. The framed size is 30 inches wide by 9&5/16 tall. I am in NO way an expert in fine art, or French engravings, and am passing along information I obtained from the auction house where I purchased this, as well as internet research. If you have any specific questions I can answer, or would like more photos, please feel free to email.
